Count On Us - Shrewsbury relief road

The Problem
High levels of traffic on routes in and out of Shrewsbury town centre are resulting in environmental problems, safety issues, congestion, and delays to goods and people. Problems are particularly acute on routes linking the north and west of the town via the town centre. For the past 20 years or so, the idea of building a Shrewsbury North West Relief Road (NWRR) has previously been considered as a possible solution to some of these transport problems. During this time, various possible routes have been looked at.
The SolutionShropshire Council is now working toward submitting a Major Scheme Business Case (MSBC) for funding approval from the Department of Transport for the project. A key component required to support the MSBC is the development of a traffic model that will be used to test the options considered for the preferred route of the road.
Count On Us were asked in the summer of 2009 by Mouchel (Shropshire Councils term contractor), to provide the essential data required to produce the traffic model and support the bid. To produce the model 16 Road Side Interviews were commissioned to ascertain trip patterns through the existing traffic network. To supplement this, origin and destination data, journey time surveys along four cross city routes and queue length information at two key junctions were undertaken. The information is currently being used for the MSBC which is anticipated to be submitted in August 2010.
TestimonialMouchel have commented that they were very satisfied with the performance of Count On Us on the project with professional and accommodating staff who provided an excellent service.
