Count On Us - Heathrow transport study

The Problem
Count On Us have recently completed a number of studies in relation to the development of an up-to-date surface access model for Heathrow Airport. This model explores the transport links surrounding the airport and feeds into the surface access strategy with a view to creating acceptable levels of service for travel to and from the airport. This is for both air passengers and airport staff in terms of journey time, reliability and cost.
The Solution
The large scale project comprised of a range of survey types and volumes, including:
- Roadside interview surveys conducted within greater London at 40 sites
- 13 class counts by video at 81 junctions including gyratory and grade separated intersections
- 13 class counts by video at 136 link count sites
- 240 automatic traffic counter sites
- 15 radar traffic counter sites
- 720 individual journey time runs
Considerable resource planning was required both in terms of equipment and staff allocation in order to complete the project in the required timescales.
Testimonial
Dan Wallace from Count On Us commented, “We were delighted to be involved in this large scale project, as the provision of data for the new model will have a tangible impact for the users of Heathrow.”
